Our Herd
LUKE
Often called “Cool Hand”, Luke is a straight shooter. He likes to know his job and tries his best to do it well. Luke doesn’t like drama, but he can appreciate nonsense. He is very compassionate, allowing others to share secrets with him which he bravely carries. Luke loves long naps in the sunshine but can kick it into high gear when running a barrel pattern or enjoying a day on the trails.
ONYX
With hair to spare, Onyx is considered a rare breed, the Canadian Cheval, the national horse of Canada. While Onyx’s size can intimidate, he often is called a “gentle giant” by those who see his large kind eyes and feel his tender heart! While at times a bit goofy, Onyx has shown an amazing affinity for partnering with others who need him the most.
CHARLIE
A classic American Quarter horse, Charlie stands a little over 15 hands tall. His beautiful head and big brown kind eyes exude wisdom and warmth - Charlie has always been an old soul! Although smaller in stature, his caring attitude and strong work ethic make him a reliable and benevolent herd leader here at Hoofprint Meadows.
BRUISER
Don’t let the name fool you! Bruiser has traveled the country with our family, having spent his early years in Las Vegas where he was born and named, then to Virginia and now finally to our Blythewood Farm. Bruiser’s name stuck because of its irony, Bruiser befriends all the creatures on the farm and is always the first to come to the fence for a pet.
The Mini Team
Made up of two Miniature Horses and measuring 32” and 37” tall, the mini team delivers the personality and learning attributes of normal horses in half the size. For those who may be intimidated by a full-sized horse, the minis provide the perfect bridge to help build confidence with horses. Our largest mini, Dillon, hails from Texas, arriving in 2020. Dillon’s “little brother” Isaiah, joined the team in 2022 while still a baby from Missouri. Both with their over-sized personalities and special talents, the minis add so much to Hoofprint Meadows!
DILLON
Upon his arrival, Dillon quickly became the farm Ambassador. With his flashy looks and outgoing personality, he welcomes all who visit. Dillon has an especially calm demeanor while retaining all the engagement and curiosity that makes being with a horse so much fun! Dillon is no “one trick pony”! He loves obstacle courses, meeting new people, and pulling his cart.
The Support Team
Maggie
Nicknamed “MagPie”, our young blue-eyed Australian Shepherd has grown into the perfect farm dog. With limitless energy and enthusiasm, she helps bring the horses in and out for feedings, plays with the mini horses and barn cat, Tyson, and supervises the humans as we do farm chores. Some of Maggie’s favorite pastimes are playing frisbee, chasing her glow in the dark ball, riding in the Kubota utility vehicle, and going on trail rides. Maggie loves life - and what a good life she has!
JAX
What a big personality this little red horse has! He was named “Little Man” when he came to the farm and has not been able to shake that description. Jax has a mind that is constantly working, opening stall doors, climbing through fences, and showing off new tricks. If being with Jax for even a few minutes doesn’t bring a smile to your face, just wait and he will show you how it’s done!
Shelby Mustang
Born and surviving on the Nevada ranges, Shelby was captured at age 5 during a BLM roundup. After spending 4 years in holding facilities, he finally made his way home to us through the Wild Horse and Burro program. Shelby’s come such a long way from his traumatic origin to his successful integration into our herd. All the progress Shelby makes is that much more sweet knowing his background. We love and are proud of you Shelby!
Isaiah
Isaiah is our newest and youngest herd member. Coming from Missouri as a weanling, he is our smaller mini with a big personality! Isaiah started his therapy career as soon as his tiny hooves hit our South Carolina ground. Calm, expressive and affectionate, Isaiah is thriving as he learns and grows enjoying the company of humans and his other herd mates. Isaiah is so smart he learns just by watching his “older brother” Dillon.
TYSON
A beautiful female tabby cat showed up on our farm several years ago. She was named because of her feral nature and interesting striped markings resembling boxer Mike Tyson’s facial tattoo. As a barn cat, Tyson is very independent and shy, not often seen by newcomers. She is sweet but can be skittish, preferring to meet just one person at a time. Tyson enjoys perching on the paddock fence to supervise the mini horses, sleeping on the back porch, and getting canned cat food as a treat.
