Christy J. Rew, Equine Specialist

Christy J. Rew established Hoofprint Meadows Therapy, LLC in 2014, in order to serve the public using her unique background as a Speech-Language Pathologist, Equine Professional, and Military Spouse. It wasn’t until her husband retired from a long career in the Air Force and moved to a horse farm in Blythewood, South Carolina, that she was able to realize her dream of combining her passions for helping people, giving back to the military, and incorporating horses into her therapy programs, recreational activities, and healing practices.

Christy’s passion for horses dates back to her preteen years when she first experienced that special bond possible between a young girl and a horse. Treasured memories of her special childhood horse, Mac, and the adventures she had with him as they traveled across the country as part of an Air Force Family, have never been forgotten. Even at a young age, Christy recognized the healing power of her horse to fill a void when friends were difficult to make and hard to keep due to her father’s frequent transfers. She and Mac enjoyed trail riding the mountains of Colorado, swimming the bayous of Louisiana, and riding the woods of Alabama.

Christy is a Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CRTI) and horseback riding continues to be a relaxing leisure activity as well as a competitive sport for her. Christy incorporates riding as part of her mental health work with horses. With a Master’s degree in Special Education, Christy has been developing programs for groups and individuals for several decades, serving individuals suffering from a wide range of disabilities to include autism, cerebral palsy, neurologic conditions, stroke, and traumatic head injury (TBI). While counseling her patients and their family members for so many years, Christy developed a sensitivity to the emotional struggles of others which led her to pursue additional certifications as an equine professional trained and experienced to work in the field of mental health facilitating treatment with horses. Trainings include PATHPATH International, and the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) as an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning. As a previously recognized EAGALA Military Designated Provider, military spouse, and child raised in the miliary, Christy has advanced training in working with the military for Equine Assisted Therapies and Activities. Additional training as a Christy is able to apply her clinical knowledge and horse expertise to accommodate a wide range of needs. She excels at breaking skills down into manageable, understandable, and achievable steps so that her clients stay motivated and interested. The initial mounted programs of adaptive riding and Hippotherapy are no longer provided at Hoofprint Meadows. Christy now specializes in trauma treatment duWhile

In addition to her work at Hoofprint Meadows, Christy is an independent contractor at the Big Red Barn Retreat of Blythewood, SC, and for Pathways Growth and Learning Center of Columbia, SC, serving Veterans, Active Duty Military, and First Responders, through the use of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Equine Assisted Learning Activities. It is through this work that Christy’s recognition and understanding of the transformative power of the horse has grown to what it is today, propelling her to share this gift and  knowledge with others, whether at Hoofprint Meadows or contracting at other facilities.
